Womankind is an established charity that is run by women for women. We help hundreds of women every year to improve their mental health and wellbeing so they can experience a better quality of life.

About our Befriending Service – Our aim is to help isolated women get back on their feet. Our be-frienders encourage and support women to become more confident and independent by helping them to make decisions, build relationships and get involved in their local community. The women we support may have faced difficulties such as childhood abuse, trauma, sexual and domestic abuse and will be experiencing mental health issues and social isolation.

What befrienders do - Befrienders support women living in Bristol and South Gloucestershire for 2-3 hours on a weekly or fortnightly basis for up to a year. They provide companionship and enable women to set their own goals and make positive changes. As a befriender you would start by getting to know each other and begin to get out and about. As the relationship develops you will support her to make changes and develop her confidence in doing everyday things such as getting the bus, joining a class, finding new hobbies, volunteering, meeting new people and generally having some fun! You will also offer emotional support by providing a listening ear.
