Winter grants: Food vouchers

The pandemic and lockdown have had a negative effect on the capability of many people across South Gloucestershire to manage household bills. Impacts include anxiety about Covid-19 itself, job losses, money worries, isolation and food poverty.

The Winter Grant Scheme aims to assist vulnerable households through the winter months and is funded by a ‘Covid-19 winter grant’ from central government, administered by South Gloucestershire Council.

Grants will be made to support the work of organisations that are helping people to get enough food to eat. At least 80% of the grant will be used to support households with children. The grants will be made in the form of vouchers, up to a maximum of £1000.

Funds will be allocated to a range of organisations working with vulnerable residents across South Gloucestershire.

Eligible organisations are:

  • mutual aid groups
  • registered charities
  • voluntary and community organisations
  • schools
  • food banks
  • care organisations
  • general practitioners

Grant applications must cover the winter period and can be made from January to March 2021. Each application will be reviewed to ensure it meets the minimum criteria for funding and this will be done on a rolling basis between January and March 2021.

The deadline for applications is currently 22 January 2021, further deadlines to be announced.

Eligible organisations can make more than one application during the winter period and all awards will be made by 31 March 2021. All vouchers must be distributed to vulnerable residents within one month of award to the organisation.
