Extended Description

Funding for this competition is provided by M&S Energy which is owned by the retailer Marks & Spencer.

The competition aims to enable more communities in Great Britain to generate renewable energy and become environmentally and financially sustainable. Shortlisted applicants will need to organise support from their community to vote for their campaign on the competition website.


Key Criteria

Not-for-profit organisations in Great Britain are eligible to apply.

Examples of eligible organisations include Parish or Town Councils, local action or interest groups (IPS, CiC, Co-operatives), Scout and Guides groups, village or community hall associations, sports and recreation clubs, co-operative schools and religious or faith groups.

Organisations must:

  • Operate their own premises or have land/a site secured.
  • Accept members without gender, social, political, racial or religious discrimination.

Eligible Expenditure

Funding is available for renewable energy projects that can demonstrate they have the support of their local community.

Grants can be used for all capital costs relating to the installation of the specified technology.


Application Procedure

Guidelines and an online application form can be found on the M&S Energy website.

A panel will shortlist applicants who will then be invited to upload campaign content onto the website campaign pages that will promote and generate votes from supporters for the project.
