Grants are available to not-for-profit organisations in the UK that provide specialist level legal advice to vulnerable young migrants as well as to firms of solicitors that provide specialist level legal advice to vulnerable young migrants.

The Strategic Legal Fund for Vulnerable Young Migrants (SLF) is a fund managed by the Immigration Law Practitioners' Association (ILPA) in partnership with the Trust for London, Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, Unbound Philanthropy, Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust and Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

The Fund supports legal work to promote the rights of vulnerable migrant children and young adults. The grants are for strategic legal work where the impact is likely to go beyond an individual case, and result in changes to law, policy and practice that benefit a wider group of people.

The SLF funds strategic legal work in any area of law where vulnerable young migrants experience disadvantage or discrimination as a result of migration status.

The SLF defines vulnerable young migrants as follows:

  • Migrants or the children of migrants.
  • Who are under 25 years.
  • Who are living in poverty.
  • Who face significant disadvantage or discrimination in connection with their (or their parents') migration status.
