Recruitment of Independent Chair 2017


The South Gloucestershire Compact Implementation Group was established in 2011, and brings together senior colleagues from the public and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sectors, to periodically review and update the South Gloucestershire Compact, support its implementation, and to oversee the disputes management process.

The Group reports to the Chief Officers Group of the Local Strategic Partnership and provides an annual report on its work and progress to the Strategic Partnership


The Group has been recognised nationally as the winner of the national Compact Award for Partnerships in 2012 and was shortlisted for the Leadership Award in 2015.

The role

Previously chaired by senior colleagues from the Avon Fire and Rescue Service and most recently the Avon and Somerset Police, the Compact Implementation Group (CIG) is now seeking an independent Chair, who will be able to undertake the following:

  • Provide leadership to support the review of the South Gloucestershire Compact working with the members of the CIG
  • Work with members of the CIG to review the structure and role of the group and with key stakeholders to develop the approach to Compact Implementation from 2019 onwards

The person

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A background in the public or VCSE sectors and have worked or work in a senior capacity in either or both sectors.
  • An in depth understanding of and commitment to the Nolan principles of public life the ideal candidate will have experience of working in a confidential and complex environment
  • An understanding of the current challenges facing the public sector and VCSE

Expenses: The role attracts a small honorarium of £600

Expectations and support for the role:

The Chair of the Compact Implementation Group receives administrative support from an Associate of CVS South Gloucestershire and the Chief Officer of CVS South Gloucestershire will provide support regarding the review of the Compact.

Each CIG member provides the link to their organisation and will liaise with internal colleagues as appropriate to support the review process.

We anticipate that there will be two CIG meetings during the year, four meetings with the Chief Officer of CVS to support the review of the Compact and attendance at a meeting of Local Strategic Partnership to present the revised Compact.

The final number of days will be agreed in negotiation with the successful candidate.
