There is approximately £400,000 available per year which is divided between the two funding rounds. There are no set minimum or maximum grants.

Grants tend to range from about £2,100 to £19,200 with an average grant of about £14,000. This is a very competitive grants programme with many more requests for funding than can be awarded.

The Community Radio Fund is managed by Ofcom with funding from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). This funding of £400,000 per year has been confirmed until 2019-20.

The aim of the programme is to support community radio licensees with the core costs of running a community radio station on the condition that the station has a social purpose and works to involve the local community in the running and providing of the service.
