Grants from Esmee Fairbairn Foundation are available to support time-limited work on the collections of museums and galleries in the UK to support and facilitate research, development, understanding and the use of collections.

The Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund, run by the Museums Association (MA), focuses on time-limited work on collections which has clear social benefit, outside the scope of an organisation’s core resources.

The MA’s Collections for the Future report of 2005 concluded that 'too many museum collections are underused – not displayed, published, used for research or even understood by the institutions that care for them'.

Between 2017 and 2019, the Fund will award £3.5 million to collections projects that demonstrate the inspiring and engaging potential of collections to deliver social impact for people and communities, innovating for the sector or at least for their organisation.

The funding is intended to support a range of high quality projects which use collections for a social purpose, demonstrating that collections change lives and enhance public benefit. The Fund will draw on the learning from these projects and beyond to stimulate excellent practice across the whole sector, through open events and resources for everyone.

Grants for Maximum Value:£ 120,000  Minimum Value:£ 20,000
