The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect in May 2018 General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that comes into force in May 2018. GDPR applies to all organisations and is intended to harmonise the way that personal contact information is handled to make sure people’s personal information is handled appropriately and securely.

This means if you hold data on anyone it must be held, processed and utilised in line with the new regulations. Organisations must understand their legal obligations in gathering and processing of data. Those that are non compliant by the deadline face hefty fines and serious consequences. 

Luckily there is plenty of guidance about how to make sure you are compliant. 

1. Training. The Care Forum will be holding a half day of hands-on training on Friday 23 March, 10am.  to support health and social care voluntary sector organisations to get to grips with GDPR. It is a chance for voluntary sector organisations to understand  as to see how this can be an opportunity to demonstrate effective information governance to both clients and commissioners.
