Profile for South Gloucestershire Parents and Carers

This organisation is based in Yate and works across South Gloucestershire. South Glos Parents and Carers is a support community for families with children 0-25 who have additional needs. They seek to improve support, outcomes and services for Children, Young People and their families who have Special Educational Needs and/or Disability (SEND). They work to create a strong community by providing opportunities for families to come together, provide support and share experiences, which helps reduce isolation.

  • Reaches out and connects to families by offering support through our different support groups and parent carer support programmes
  • Brings parents and professionals together by running Information and Activities events and producing resources to help families
  • Listens and records Parent Carer views about how the services journey can be improved for their families - we do this through our Parent Carer Participation Forum.

Case studies how South Gloucestershire Parents and Carers have helped families

Case Study: Employment Event

Attended by 60 people across South Gloucestershire to helpinform families what options are out there for young peoplewith SpecialEducational Needs and/or Disabilities post 16.

"I just wanted to thank you for organising and arranging last weeks brilliant workshop. I found it so helpful and informative. I really did not know what was available and now feel reassured that when my daughter finishes college she can move onto a traineeship, internship or event look for work. I have my hopes for the future, which now does not seem so daunting, knowing there is support out there", Parent Quote

Case Study: Little Treasures

One of four parent support groups run across South Gloucestershire - this particular group has more facilities and activities for pre-school  children with SEND. Little Treasures enables the whole family to become less socially isolate and raises parent confidence to build relationships and widen their social network. Families will be supported, through peer-to-peer support, and signposted by South Gloucestershire Parents and Carers to where they can find additional information, relevant groups and support agencies.

"I wouldn't attempt to take my children to a group alone but at Little Treasures it was always enjoyable, stress free and accessible for both of them," Parent Quote
